About MBBS Education in China

China is now becoming the most preferred destination for studying MBBS in Asia. Every year, more than 10,000 students from abroad come to China to study Medicine. Studying for an English medium MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) in China has become progressively popular since 2004. Medical schools with English medium MBBS are recognized by the Medical Council of China and also by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the "Directory of World Medical Schools". The bachelor of medical degree is also globally recognized.

The number of English-medium MBBS programs in China is growing and now there are about 45 best China medical universities approved by Ministry of Education of China. The approved universities have the authority to grant master's degree in Basic Medicine and Clinical Medicine (First-level Subjects), and in affiliated hospitals with Grade III, Level A for the international students enrolled in the undergraduate medical program in English in China . Thus to some extent the labs,infrastructure and organisation are better than most of the governmental colleges in Asia, Africa and other countries. The faculties of this programare Chinese teachers with doctor or qualified with master degrees, in Medicine and have study or work experience from abroad and also foreign teachers from India, Nepal or Pakistan, who meet the international education standard.

The program instruction is in English.English medium MBBS programs last for six years. After completing basic education, there is a year of internship for practice. Students also have the option to do internship in China or their home-country. Particular universities may have certain additional criteria forthe candidates to meet, such as a high score in thefollowing subjects of biology, chemistry and mathematics. Furthermore, although the medium of instruction is in English, international students still need to study Chinese language in order to communicate with patients in the clinics. Few medical schools require foreign students to clear the HSK test (Chinese language proficiency) before graduation.

Most of the universities have taught MBBS in English for years and have a strong reputation. The medical degree is valid throughout the world and also eligible for Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), Medical Council of India (MCI), Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS), Medical and Dental Professions Board, Health Professions Council of South Africa, the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) in the UK, and the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) including for Screening test conducted by the National Board of Examination under each country. Some universities will invite foreign experienced medical professionals from abroad to give a lecture or Doctor licensed examination preparation training. Majority of the graduates are working in their home - countries as a licensed Doctor.

Evaluation of the performance of the student is based on the progress of the student in mastering the subjects that are included in the curriculum and that will be monitored objectively and in detail. The number of weekly tests and examinations to be taken during each academic year is strictly framed by the head of the institution. Any foreign student in China University is considered as an ordinary student and hence should stand by all the rules and regulations of the university.
